Welcome to the website of the National Butterfly Association’s annual championship regatta, Butterfly Nationals.
The Butterfly Nationals is one of the oldest one-design sailing regattas in North America, with the first event held in 1962 at Grand Rapids Yacht Club in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Remaining unchanged for nearly 54 years, the Butterfly sailboat is a pioneer in the concept of one-design sailboat racing and owes its esteemed heritage to John Barnett who designed the first Butterfly in 1961.
Today you can find Butterfly fleets throughout the Midwest, Colorado, and Texas. Each year competitors travel to a different venue to compete against each other, form and renew friendships, and enjoy the sport of sailing. Host clubs rotate annually and include Spring Lake Yacht Club, Grand Rapids Yacht Club, Torch Lake Yacht Club, Glen Lake Yacht Club, and Crystal Lake Yacht Club.
As the venue moves from year to year, it is our hope that this website will help maintain consistency for information to be shared and distributed.
